At Happy-Go-Lucky, we believe that having a dog is supposed to be fun. Our positive-method obedience classes are designed to help you build a healthy relationship with your dog - one based on knowledge, communication, trust and, yes, fun. Our obedience courses give you the tools you need to get the most from your dog.

Puppy Kindergarten

During some of the most formative weeks of your dog's life, we'll focus on socialization, confidence, manners and, of course, those challenging "puppy issues" like chewing, housetraining, jumping up and pulling on the leash, to name a few. You'll learn commands like watch, sit, down, come, wait and leave-it. Plus, your puppy will have appropriate playtime and new experiences in a safe, monitored environment.

Beginning Obedience

For dogs over 4 months, our Beginning Obedience class helps you learn what really makes your dog tick. We'll teach you how to reinforce the behaviors you want, and how to get rid of those you
don't. Our course outline includes: relationship & handling; socialization & exercise; sit, down& stand, greeting without jumping up; watch, stay & waiting at doorways; coming when called; loose-leash walking (not taking you for a walk); leave it & drop; and behavior management. We'll even teach a few tricks you can show off on graduation day. And your dog won't even know he's working for you!

Puppy Intermediate

While still benefitting from the important socialization of playtime with classmates, your older pup will improve upon the basics and learn new commands in a fun, game-like style. This class is for dogs under one year that have completed our Puppy Kindergarten (or similar). This class is 5 weeks, 1 hour each week. Click here for SCHEDULE of classes.

Intermediate 1 & 2 and Advanced Levels

Once you've learned the basics, you'll refine commands, build distraction, and even get a little fancy. Every class is tailored to the needs of the students, so each class is different. Out-on-the-Town (seasonal)

Taking our show on the road! This class meets at a different, predetermined location each week (like parks, the waterfront and restaurants). Working on attention, walking on a loose leash, come, leave it, stays with lots of distraction, dog greetings, etc. It's great for dogs who need to learn to build focus and/or confidence. All students must be dog-friendly.

CGC Preparation Class (5 Weeks)

Four weeks working on the ten exercises for the A.K.C.'s Canine Good Citizen Test with the test given on week five. Alternating weeks working on five exercises per session. Includes passing another dog, walking through a crowd, various distractions, being handled, sit, down, stay and come.

Prerequisites: Dog must be nine months old to take test. Puppy Kindergarten or Beginning class training a minimum. Dog must be reasonably people and dog friendly. Dog can be purebred or mixed breed. Click here for SCHEDULE of classes.

Tricks & Games Class (5 Weeks)

Have some fun and be the family star! Learn a variety of tricks like hit your mark, put your head down, crawl, spin, play dead, roll over, hide your eyes, sit up, bow, etc. We'll take a vote as to what tricks you want to be taught in class.
We'll also play some games that put your distraction training to the test. This class is offered upon enough demand, so if you're interested, call to be added to the interest list.

Introduction to Rally Obedience (5 Weeks)

Looking for a fun sport to share with your dog? Rally-O combines elements of obedience training, freestyle, and agility. In this introduction course you will first learn the basic side-steps, pivots, and finishes, and then try them out while navigating a series of obedience signs. You and you dog will be weaving through cones, back stepping in unison, spinning circles, and getting familiar with the different signs. Whether you are here to have fun or to start competing in trials, this class offers a great opportunity to work with your dog in harmony and have a great time doing so!

Prerequisites: Puppy Kindergarten or Beginning class training a minimum. Dog must be people and dog friendly and walking reasonably well on a leash. We will be learning both AKC and APDT rules. Click here for SCHEDULE of classes.
